Why Google is making a big push towards local marketing

In case you hadn't noticed, Google is focusing more and more of its energy and resources on local….

 

Google’s new emphasis on local makes perfect sense when you clearly understand consumer behavior and how users research online before transacting offline: 95% of retail transactions are offline but 70% to 90% of online consumers research on the internet (depending on the category) before making purchase decisions and heading into stores.

Marketing local businesses is a huge market and lucrative business for Google, but also for the local businesses themselves. From what I see, most local markets seem to have little competition for ranking at the top of local search results (excepting major cities).

Businesses have an opportunity to cement their position above their competitors. Are you going to take that opportunity?
